We’re thrilled that you’re considering performing as a reader at Kinky Soul’s Reading Night! Your voice and creativity are essential to making this event special, and we can’t wait to hear what you have to share. To help you prepare, we’ve gathered these tips and recommendations
Stick To the time limit - The format allows for readings between 3 to 7 minutes. If your piece is a little longer, please confirm with the host in advance to ensure we can accommodate you.
Give a trigger alert -If your text touches on themes that might be sensitive or triggering, please provide a brief alert before starting. This helps maintain a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
Avoid reading from your phone - Whenever possible, print or write your piece on paper. It adds a polished touch and creates a stronger presence on stage.
Practice out loud - Your piece might sound different when spoken aloud. Try practicing in front of a mirror or recording yourself at least once before the event. This can help you refine your delivery and feel more confident.
It doesn't have to be serious - readings often have a serious reputation, don’t hesitate to embrace creativity, infuse humor, drama, into your performance—if it suits your piece. Be as playful or straightforward as you feel comfortable.
Don't be Perfect! - This is a space for fun, exploration, and self-expression. It’s not about being "good" or competing. Your authentic voice is what matters most!
